Promotions & Propaganda
by Taped Rugs Productions
Taped Rugs Productions was established in 1980 by Charles Rice Goff III as an umbrella distributor and promoter for his artistic endeavors and for the endeavors of his many talented associates. Since the first official product was released by Taped Rugs ( the cassette album entitled: "Might As Well Beyond Venus" : http://www.archive.org/details/MightAsWellBeyondVenus ), a huge quantity of recordings, videos, booklets, calendars, photographs, games, and other art things have poured forth from this tiny cottage company into the public’s ears and eyes. The vast majority of Taped Rugs creations have been produced in very limited quantities, and the experimental nature of these rare renderings has limited their popularity to individuals with an interest in revolutionary ideas and the avant garde. Obviously, the ultimate goal of Taped Rugs Productions has never been to profit financially, and it never has in its over thirty years of operations.
While Taped Rugs has explored many areas of the art universe over the years, its most prominent focus always has been experimental audio production. Authors from all over the world have written volumes of commentary about Taped Rugs recordings since the 1980's. Previous to the 21st Century and to the rise of the internet, these writings were mostly published in small press magazines. To promote his productions, Goff used to photocopy reviews and other mentions of Taped Rugs from these magazines and paste them into fliers to distribute through his mailings. Goff also produced and revised catalogs of Taped Rugs recordings several times over the years, and, until the late 1990's, all of these catalogs were pasted up in a similar manner, combining verbiage written on typewriters with photocopied images.
This archive contains a small sampling of the various promotional materials that Goff produced for Taped Rugs between the mid 1980's and early 2000's, each presented in PDF format:

2) Taped Rugs Various Promotions 1986 - 1997

3) Taped Rugs Reviews 1987 - 2006
